Win a long weekend for eight friends at Summerlee, a luxury Hawke’s Bay retreat

IF A LONG WEEKEND staying in a gorgeous homestead sounds like heaven, think how positively celestial it would be in the company of seven of your friends. That’s our prize.

Summerlee is the original homestead of Cape Kidnappers Station, set in 14 hectares of gardens and coastal farmland with breathtaking Pacific Ocean views, a 25-minute drive from Napier. The sumptuously refurbished house has eight bedrooms (five king-sized and three with en suites), a fully equipped professional kitchen, formal dining-room, pool with pool house and floodlit tennis court. It costs $1500 a night. And it’s all yours.

For three days and nights you and your friends will have the house and its gardens to yourselves. The luxuries on hand may be too delightful to leave but should you wish to explore, all sorts of temptations are at the gate. Summerlee is next to the Cape Kidnappers golf course (voted best new golf course in the world in 2005), safaris to the famous gannet colony leave at the end of the driveway next door and the whole area is awash with some of New Zealand’s best wineries and restaurants.

Perhaps the attractions of Summerlee’s kitchen, dining-room and barbecue will inspire you to stock up at one of the area’s bountiful farmers’ markets and indulge in some culinary creativity. However, if self-catering is not on the menu, Summerlee will arrange for someone to do the cooking.

Golf, exploring the art-deco city of Napier or floating over the Hawke’s Bay countryside in a balloon could occupy the three days. Or you could just chill out in Summerlee’s beautiful rooms and gardens with seven of your favourite people.
