WIN: A Trip to Sri Lanka
Check into Colombo’s Galle Face Hotel where yesterday’s charms meet modern comforts in colonial English splendour. Built in 1864 and now part of Select Hotels & Resorts International, the hotel’s newly renovated Regency Wing adds king-sized beds and ocean-facing balconies with jacuzzis to its elegantly furnished rooms. Our prizewinners will stay in an Oceanic Spa Suite where the luxuries on offer even run to a personal butler.

Take tea on the wide veranda overlooking the Indian Ocean, dine in one of five restaurants that range from Asian-inspired cuisine in the signature The 1864 restaurant to more casual options in the English-style pub, share a romantic herbal bath in the hotel’s day spa and linger in the designer shopping arcade, art gallery and museum.

Colombo’s exotic streets must eventually lure guests away from the hotel’s pleasures for at least a morning’s sightseeing. Venture out into the sea-port city with its Buddhist and Hindu temples and heritage buildings. Look for traditional crafts such as pottery and woven goods and be tempted by the sapphires for which Sri Lanka is famous. People-watch on Galle Face Green, a wide promenade that follows the coastline for half a kilometre through the heart of the city and take a tour 115km south to the 17th-century Dutch fort at Galle, a World Heritage Site. But don’t miss cocktails at sunset back at the Galle Face Hotel.

The prize is valued at more than $13,000, and includes air travel from New Zealand to Colombo, seven nights' accommodation, all meals, butler service and airport transfers.
